The Tanyati "R" Litter (1st Aug 2005) was a phenomenal litter and so, when it was time to breed Shakira again, there was no hesitation in my mind - I repeated the combination. This is the first time I have ever repeated a mating, but I could not ignore the results from the first time Shakira was bred to Flipper! Between Wednesday 31st January 2007 and Thursday 1st February, an extremely large Shakira easily gave birth to 8 puppies. Unfortunately the 9th puppy got horribly stuck and neither the brave efforts of Shakira nor the hard work of my amazing vet Nathalie were able to save that puppy and the other poor babies that were still in the uterus. Shakira had 12 babies in total! 2 boys and 10 girls! A record for Tanyati! We are left with 7 healthy, fat, shiny puppies. 1 boy and 6 girls.

13 Feb 2007: We are devastated by the loss of 3 puppies over the last week and we are left with 1 fawn boy and 3 brindle girls. It's a dark time at Tanyati and we mourn the loss of so many innocent babies. God give us strength to bear this burden.
